ERSO Award Acceptance Speech

Good morning everyone,
This is LJ Chen, I am the founder of TPSC.
It’s a great honor to receive the ERSO Award.
My very first job was at ERSO, where I served as an alternative military serviceman.
The six years I spent there weren’t just the beginning of my career — they laid the most important foundation for everything that followed. If I’ve achieved anything in my work or life, it all began at ERSO.
This April is extra special. Not only am I standing here with this award, but I’ve also just become a grandfather! My daughter recently gave birth to a beautiful baby boy. It truly feels like a month of double blessings. 好像中了樂透！
I’d like to thank two of my early mentors from the ERSO Submicron Project — Dr. CY Lu, now Chairman of Ardentec 欣銓科技 and Dr. Chi-Ming Chang (張季明) , now Vice Chairman. I still clearly remember submitting my first paper to the VMIC Conference and being selected to give a talk 30 years ago. I had never traveled abroad before, and Dr. CY Lu personally coached me, a very young engineer through many rehearsals. His support meant the world to me.
Time flies — and now, I serve as an independent Board director at Ardentec. Even today, I continue learning from both of these great leaders — not just about business, but about life.
After the Submicron Project, I returned to ERSO and received strong support from Dr. Chintay Shih (史欣泰) and Dr. Jyuo-Min Shyu (徐爵民) . At that time, ERSO was debating whether to continue investing in semiconductors. Thanks to their unwavering support, over 20 of us — all alternative military engineers — were able to keep the Deep Submicron Project alive. We even made progress in developing key tools and materials. Thirty years ago, those visionary decisions laid the groundwork for the domestic semiconductor supply chain that’s now critical to TSMC’s global expansion.
Another key mentor during that time was Dr. Genda Hu (胡正大) , the founder of FocalTech Systems. Without his leadership, the Deep Submicron Project would not have happened. He guided us in building core R&D infrastructure and helped Taiwan move forward in next generation semiconductors. I’m also grateful that he later nominated me for this award.
After ERSO, I joined the display industry through AU Optronics, thanks to Dr. Po-Yen Lu (盧伯彥)— my former boss at AUO and now Chairman of Union Optech (聯亞光電) Under his mentorship, I learned everything from production to marketing to business strategy. Eventually, I became CEO of AU Optronics with nearly 500 billion NT dollars in annual revenue by 2007.
In 2015, I started a new chapter as an entrepreneur. I founded TENLife Group, focusing on Clean Technology. By 2021, I also launched Taiwan Perovskite Solar Corporation (TPSC), aiming to build a complete perovskite solar supply chain in Taiwan including equipment, material, process, and application— inspired by everything I learned at ERSO.
Last year, we completed Taiwan’s first perovskite solar factory in Hsinchu. Just last month, we launched Taiwan’s first vertical solar power plant — a power-generating window designed for green buildings. We call Windows Zero.
I often joke that I’m like the Monkey King (孫悟空)— capable of 72 transformations. But the most important person in my life is my “Buddha” — my wife, Ms. Chiung-Man (李瓊滿). A beautiful girl~ She is smiling here.. Through both the highs and the lows, she’s always been by my side, quietly giving me strength.
I also want to thank my parents. They teach me to be strong, independent, and always eager to learn. Those values have stayed with me throughout my life.
Lastly, I’m deeply grateful to all the mentors and friends and TENLife members who have guided me along the way. Each of you has been a teacher to me.

ERSO Award 得獎感言
各位早安，
我是陳來助（LJ Chen），台灣鈣鈦礦科技（TPSC）的創辦人。
今天能夠獲得 ERSO 獎項，我感到無比榮幸。我的第一份工作就是在 ERSO（工研院電子所），當時我是一位替代役男。在那裡的六年，不只是我職涯的起點，更奠定了我往後一切成就的最重要基礎。如果我今天在工作或人生上有任何成就，那一切都是從 ERSO 開始的。
今年四月對我來說意義非凡。不僅站在這裡領獎，我也剛升格當了外公！我的女兒最近剛生下了一位漂亮的寶寶，這真的是雙喜臨門的月份, "簡直像中樂透一樣!"
我特別要感謝我在 ERSO 次微米計畫中的兩位早期恩師, 現任欣銓科技董事長盧志遠博士（Dr. CY Lu）與現任副董事長張季明博士。30年前，我首次投稿 VMIC 國際研討會，幸運獲選上台報告。當時的我從未出國，是盧博士親自陪我一遍又一遍地練習。對一位年輕工程師來說，那份指導與鼓勵意義非凡。時光飛逝，今天我也擔任欣銓科技的獨立董事。而我依然持續從這兩位傑出領袖身上學習，不僅是經營企業，更是學習如何經營人生。
次微米計畫結束後，我回到 ERSO，又獲得了史欣泰博士與徐爵民博士的大力支持。當時，電子所內部正討論是否繼續投入半導體領域。正因為他們的堅定支持，我們超過20位替代役工程師得以延續深次微米計畫，甚至開始開發關鍵的設備與材料。三十年前的那些遠見決策，如今成為支撐台積電全球擴張的重要在地供應鏈基礎。
在那段關鍵時期，另一位重要的引路人是敦泰電子創辦人胡正大博士。沒有他的領導，深次微米計畫無法啟動。他幫我們建構了核心研發基礎，推動台灣往下一代半導體邁進。也很感謝他後來提名我參加此次 ERSO 獎。
離開 ERSO 後，我轉戰顯示器產業，進入友達光電。這一切都要感謝當時的主管, 盧伯彥博士，現任聯亞光電董事長。在他的指導下，我學會了從生產、行銷到企業策略的全盤經營，後來我也接下友達 CEO 一職，並於 2007 年達到近五千億台幣的營收高峰。
2015 年，我開啟了全新的創業旅程，創立天來集團（TENLife Group），專注於綠色科技, 2021年我也成立了台灣鈣鈦礦科技（TPSC），目標是在台灣打造完整的鈣鈦礦太陽能供應鏈，從設備、材料、製程到應用一條龍。靈感，依舊來自 ERSO。
去年，我們在新竹完成了台灣第一座鈣鈦礦太陽能工廠。上個月，我們也啟用了台灣首座垂直型太陽能電廠——這是一扇會發電的綠建築窗戶，我們叫它「Windows Zero」。
我常開玩笑說自己就像孫悟空，會七十二變。但我這輩子最重要的「佛祖」是我太太, 李瓊滿女士。一位美麗的女子～她現在正笑著看我。無論順境或逆境，她總是在我身旁默默支持，是我最堅強的後盾。
我也要感謝我的父母，他們教會我堅強、獨立與持續學習的精神，這些價值觀陪伴我走過一生。
最後，我要衷心感謝一路上所有的恩師、朋友與 TENLife 團隊的每一位成員。你們每一位，都是我生命中的老師。
